Roofing FAQs for Bridgwater & Sedgemoor

Straight answers to the questions we get asked most.

Do you cover my area?

We cover Bridgwater and the surrounding areas, including Wembdon, Durleigh, North Petherton, Huntworth, Chilton Trinity, Puriton, Woolavington, Bawdrip, Westonzoyland and Cannington. If you are just outside, ring and ask.

How quickly can you come out?

For urgent leaks we aim to be with you the same day. For everything else we book a free site visit, usually within a few days.

Are quotes free?

Yes. The site visit and the written quote are free, with no obligation.

What guarantee do you give?

A 20 year full written company guarantee on all workmanship and all materials, on every job. See our guarantee.

How long have you been roofing?

20 years.

Can you match old Bridgwater clay tiles?

Usually. The town’s last tile yard closed in 1970, so original tiles come from reclamation, and compatible new double Roman tiles are available. If we cannot match them, we tell you before we start.

Do I need planning permission to re-roof?

Not usually for like-for-like. In one of Bridgwater’s conservation areas, or on a listed building, changing the material or profile may need permission or consent. Check with Somerset Council first.

Is there an Article 4 direction on my roof?

Possibly, if you are in the St John’s conservation area east of the river. It was extended in 2019 with an Article 4(2) direction, and the published notice does not say exactly what it covers. Elsewhere we have not found one on roofs. Check with Somerset Council before changing a roof material, rooflight or chimney.

Will the tidal barrier affect my roof?

No. The barrier is about river flooding. Your roof’s job is to shed rain into gutters that can carry it away, which matters on flat ground whatever the river is doing.

Why does my roof leak only when it is windy?

Wind-driven rain gets pushed up under laps and flashings that stay dry in still weather. It usually points to a lap, verge or flashing rather than a broken tile.

Do you do flat roofs?

Yes, mainly in single-sheet EPDM rubber. See flat roofs.

Do you repair cast iron guttering?

Yes, and we replace it in cast iron or a matching profile where it cannot be saved.

Can you help with an insurance claim?

We can provide photos and a written description of storm damage and the repair for your insurer.

Will you take photos of the work?

Yes. Before and after, so you can see what we did on a roof you cannot get up to.

How do I pay?

Payment terms are set out on your written quote.

How do I get a quote?

Ring 0800 494 7291 free, or use the quote form.
